Activity
- Limit activity the day of surgery.
- You may get up for the bathroom and meals.
- Gradually resume normal activities as tolerated.
Pain relief
- Take pain medication as directed with food.
- Warm sitz baths (unless told not to) can help.
- Lying down with an ice pack to the area may ease discomfort.
- Ibuprofen may be used within recommended limits if approved by your surgeon.
Bowel movements
Keep stools soft. Use fiber and stool softeners if recommended. Avoid straining.
When to call
- Pain not controlled with prescribed measures
- Heavy bleeding
- Fever, chills, or inability to urinate
- Increasing swelling or drainage
