What to expect
Some pain or discomfort is common for about 24–48 hours. Acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen are often sufficient. Many people return to regular activities the same day; others prefer a short period of lighter activity.
Care tips
- Resume a normal diet unless told otherwise.
- Sitz baths (warm water for 5–10 minutes) can improve comfort and hygiene.
- A thin layer of petroleum jelly may reduce itching as the area heals.
- Cauterized tissue may look darkened at first; this usually fades as healing progresses.
Healing from the inside out can take several weeks — that is expected.
Call if you notice
- Severe pain not relieved by usual measures
- Bleeding that will not stop
- Urinary retention
- Fever greater than 100.4°F
